Job Summary
This role performs chemical, physical and microbiological analysis of drinking water and wastewater from Regional treatment systems in accordance with standard operating procedures.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct chemical, physical and microbiological testing using a variety of instruments and tests methods.
- Maintain records of analytical results. Update LIMS database including data input, sample logging, quality control and calculations.
- Monitor analytical results in accordance with Ministry of Environment, Conservation & Parks (MECP) standards and guidelines for drinking water and wastewater.
- Assist in reporting laboratory results to clients including historical trending.
- Review, improve and/or develop methods, including relevant documentation and experimentation, and assists in the preparation of associated standard operating procedures.
- Maintain quality control documentation for Laboratory methods as required by the quality system.
- Maintain and troubleshoots Laboratory equipment and apparatus.
- Research and monitor developments in testing methodology.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
- Bachelor’s Degree in Science or a Technology Diploma in a science related field.
- Minimum two (2) years directly-related laboratory experience.
- Excellent analytical skills, strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent customer service orientation, team work, and good time management skills along with strong attention to detail.
- Strong adherence to operating procedures and working knowledge of Ministry of Environment, Conservation & Parks (MECP) standards and guidelines related to drinking water and wastewater.
- Computer software programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
Preferred
- Experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
- Technical ability to troubleshoot laboratory equipment and apparatus.

- Located at the Halton Regional Laboratory in Burlington.
- Must work scheduled weekends and be on-call on a rotational basis to accommodate regulatory requirements.
