Employee Recognition

Our employees have a positive impact on the community and in our workplace. Through our Employee Recognition program, we acknowledge teams and individuals for achievements that positively impact the organization or Halton residents. We host an annual Employee Recognition Awards Ceremony to celebrate the many great things our employees achieve as well as their long-service milestones.

Employee Training and Development

We provide employees with a number of initiatives to support development including: coaching, mentoring, acting assignments, talent development plans and regular professional development opportunities through our learning management program. It offers over 60 on-site, virtual and e-learning courses annually in the areas of career Development, customer service, communication, wellness and health & safety.

Our Emergent Leader program is a self-directed, online learning opportunity to support frontline employees who would like to develop their leadership skills. Through participation in the Emergent Leader program, staff get a greater understanding of the role of a frontline people leader. They learn the necessary knowledge, behaviours, skills and values required for effective people leadership including an increased awareness of their own leadership competence.

Leadership Development

We offer learning through programs designed to develop one’s capacity for leadership roles in our organization. We also offer learning programs for leaders in an effort to reinforce supervisor and manager level knowledge, skills and values, as well as, providing a baseline for effective frontline people leadership at Halton. 

Leadership foundations is a six-month development program consisting of formal, informal and on-the-job learning designed for supervisor level staff. 

Management Excellence is a one-year development program consisting of formal, classroom and virtual learning opportunities designed to develop management level staff leadership capabilities. We offer learning through programs designed to develop one’s capacity for leadership roles in our organization.

Employee Wellness

We recognize wellness is an ongoing journey of balance.  Our programming supports the following eight dimensions of wellness:

Our Health, Safety & Wellness team also organizes yoga classes, nutritional workshops, mental health workshops and other major corporate wellness initiatives.

The Employee Assistance Program is available to all employees and eligible family members. It provides a confidential and voluntary support service that can help employees make changes in their lives. This service helps employees find solutions to many challenges at any age and stage of life.
