To be eligible to apply for a co-op student position, you must meet the following criteria:
- Legally entitled to work in Canada as a student.
- In possession of a Social Insurance Number (card) at time of hire.
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary educational institution on a full-time basis and returning to school upon completion of the co-op work term(s).
This position will require the successful incumbent to provide proof of co-op eligibility, a transcript and tax credit form(s) from their school’s co-op department.
Job Summary
As a co-op student within Engineering & Construction, you will assist Project Managers in the delivery of Capital projects of various types, including watermain, sanitary sewer, pumping station, reservoir, and road projects. This will involve analyzing engineering drawings and data, assisting with meetings, performing engineering calculations and quantity takeoffs, and supporting public communication procedures.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assists Project Managers to deliver watermain, sanitary sewer, pumping station, reservoir, and road engineering and construction capital projects
- Analyses engineering drawings and retrieves data as required to perform various job functions
- Assists in preparing meeting agendas and minutes, managing project invoicing and project files
- Performs engineering calculations and reviews
- Assists in quantity take offs in preparation of construction cost estimates/payment certificates
- Assists in compiling construction tender documents
- Attends design and construction meetings
- Distributes letters and communications to public
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a Civil, Environmental, or Transportation Engineering program at a recognized university or college
- Demonstrated computer literacy in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Strong communication skills for interacting with co-workers, management, internal groups, and the public are required along with time management and problem-solving skills
Working/ Employment Conditions
- Travel may be required between locations within Halton Region, the incumbent must have and supply own transportation.
- This position will be required to work 100% in person on site.
