Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Wastewater System Performance, the Data Specialist will be responsible for ensuring flood-related wastewater datasets are integrated, accurate, and analysis-ready. This position is also responsible for the production of reliable maps, dashboards, and reports to support field investigations, inform mitigation strategies, and guide evidence-based decision-making by Senior Management and Council.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Gather, integrate, and analyze flood-related wastewater datasets, ensuring data is accurate, consistent, and analysis-ready to support program objectives.
  • Develop and maintain GIS maps, dashboards, and visualizations to support flood investigations, modeling, and flood mitigation planning.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) on incoming data; manage data storage, updates, and accessibility across relevant systems.
  • Compile, interpret, and present data through reports, summaries, and visual tools to support decision-making and program reporting requirements.
  • Support project teams by providing data, mapping, and analytical support for studies, investigations, and flood mitigation initiatives.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand data needs and provide timely responses to inquiries related to flood data, analysis, and reporting.
  • Document and update workflows, standards, and business processes to improve data management, integration, and reporting practices.
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of policies, procedures, and tools related to flood data management and analysis.
  • Stay current with evolving technologies, data practices, and analytical tools relevant to flood risk and wastewater system performance.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree in Engineering, GIS, Geography, Computer Science or a related field.
  • Experience working with and analyzing datasets. 
  • Proficiency in GIS tools (e.g., ArcGIS) for mapping and spatial analysis. 
  • Strong skills in data management, QA/QC, and reporting. 
  • Experience creating maps, dashboards, or visual reports. 
  • Familiarity with data tools such as Excel, SQL, or Power BI is an asset. 
  • Understanding of flood risk or municipal water/wastewater systems is an asset. 
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills. 
  • Good communication and teamwork abilities. 
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

 

Preferred

  • Knowledge of computer software including experience MS-Access, ArcView, GIS, SAP, IPFS and MS-Office, to support system performance analysis and reporting.
