Job Summary

Reporting to the Director, Services for Seniors, the Manager, Nutrition Services oversees the Nutrition and Hydration program in Services for Seniors. This position directly oversees and manages the Villages of Halton Production Kitchen, Centralized Food Purchasing and Nutrition Services Supervisor Float support. In addition, this position works closely with the homes’ Registered Dietitians and Nutrition Services Supervisors, establishing best practices and promoting consistency, efficiency and quality to optimize the delivery of food and nutrition services to long term care residents and other clients of the Villages of Halton Production Kitchen.  

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support the long-term care homes in their efforts to meet legislative requirements and accreditation standards for food and nutrition services through completion of regular operational/clinical reviews and action plan development.
  • Provide support with developing workplans to implement identified improvements to Nutrition Services Supervisors, Registered Dietitians, Nutrition Services Department staff and to Dining Teams in the homes.
  • Oversee the implementation and sustainability of the International Dysphagia Diet Standardization Initiative (IDDSI).
  • Prioritize the investigation of  integrative food and nutrition software solutions, electronic health record reporting, streamlining communication of nutrition care plan changes and pertinent data collection and analysis.
  • Work with the Dietitian Specialist and the home Registered Dietitians to optimize nutrition screening tools, assessment formats and care planning objectives, leveraging the use of technology where possible.
  • Oversee the development and review of Nutrition Services Policies and Procedures.
  • Oversee the biannual menu planning activities including recipe review, therapeutic menu review, nutritional analysis and costing analysis.

Additional Duties

  • Review and assess cost of planned menus and work with the Nutrition Services team to monitor food costs.
  • Manage the Villages of Halton Production Kitchen in cooperation with a full time Nutrition Services Supervisor.
  • Ensure the Villages of Halton Production Kitchen team adere to best practices and established policies and procedures.
  • Maintain effective relationships with all clients of the Villages of Halton Production Kitchen (Long Term Care Homes, Adult Day Programs and Community Partners).
  • Ensure that recipe development is a priority of the Villages of Halton Production Kitchen chefs as well as methods to optimize the nutiritional value of all recipes/menus.
  • Oversee and coordinate the support the Nutrition Services Supervisor (Float) provides the long term care homes.
  • Manage centralized food purchasing through the oversight of the Nutrition Services Supervisor (Float).
  • Oversee the maintenance and state of good repair of the CBORD data base.
  • Attend the annual Nutrition and Hydration Program evaluation for each home and utilize outcomes for program improvements.
  • Oversee the continuous quality improvement activities for Nutrition Services, augmenting audit tools and action planning to address identified areas of improvement.
  • Lead the Nutrition Services Functional Group as a member of the Services for Seniors Management Team Committee.
  • Lead the development of division-wide quality improvement strategies, project monitoring and evaluation, key performance indicator monitoring and satisfaction survey action planning for food and nutrition services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

Essential

  • Successful completion of a university degree and supervised practical training that meet the standards for dietetics education in Canada.
  • Member in good standing with the College of Dietitians of Ontario.
  • Expertise and knowledge of Gerontology and minimum 5 years experience as a Registered Dietitian in Long Term Care.
  • Menu planning and food service knowledge, skills and minimum 5 years operational experience in long term care.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 and associated applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, SharePoint and Teams) as well as CBORD and/or other food and nutrition software.

  • Current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Vulnerable Sector Check by the first day of employment.
  • Current (obtained within the past six (6) months) two-step tuberculosis test or Quanti-FERON-TB Gold plus test by the first day of employment.

Working Condiitons

  • Position requires travel between Halton Regional Headquarters, Allendale, Creek Way and/or Post Inn Village, and incumbent must supply own transportation.
