Job Summary
Reporting to the Public Health Planning Advisor, Effective Public Health Practice, the Planning and Knowledge Broker supports evidence-informed decision making (EIDM) by guiding the planning and implementation of public health programs aligned with provincial standards and regional priorities. The role supports teams in developing interest-holder engagement plans and acts as a knowledge broker by synthesizing research evidence and facilitating program development to improve population health and advance health equity.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Support program teams with planning activities, including situational assessments, evidence reviews, prioritization of interventions and activities, and the development of goals, objectives, and logic models.
- Lead and/or support the development of evidence reviews on public health topics to inform strategic decisions about public health interventions.
- Translate evidence review findings into practice through knowledge exchange activities and products.
- Consult, facilitate, and provide training to increase staff capacity in EIDM, healthy equity, and interest-holder engagement.
- Support the development and use of tools, templates, and processes that strengthen EIDM and program planning, ensuring that a health equity lens is applied.
- Support program teams in selecting and implementing appropriate interest-holder engagement methods and tools to reach specific partners, community groups, or populations, including First Nations, Inuit, Métis and Urban Indigenous (FNIMUI) communities, Black communities, and other identified priority populations.
- Collaborate with program teams to support research inquiries, oversee internal library services, and liaise with Public Health Ontario’s Shared Library Services Partnership.
- Ensure compliance with the Ontario Public Health Standards and relevant information and data management policies and legislation.
- Participate in provincial networks and communities of practice to stay current with best practices in EIDM, healthy equity, interest-holder engagement.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
- Master’s degree in public health, health promotion, health science, or a related discipline.
- Advanced training in research methodology and EIDM.
- Experience working with interest-holder engagement frameworks, strategies, and tools.
- Strong analytical, communication, and project management skills.
- Expertise in knowledge translation and mobilization.
- Familiarity with public health legislation and information governance principles.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
