Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Realty Services, this role is responsible for creating and assisting in maintaining project databases for property acquisitions, coordinating the Realty Services intake process including coordinating meetings with Realty Services’ partners and stakeholders, reviewing appraisal reports, and providing negotiation and project management support for the acquisition of property interests for Halton Region municipal projects.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Negotiate the acquisition or sale of real property interests.
  • Project manage the Realty Services intake process for requisitions from Realty Services’ partners and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate meetings and present the Realty Services intake process to Realty Services’ partners and stakeholders which may include providing information on real estate policies and procedures.
  • Create and assist in maintaining project tracking databases to track status of ongoing negotiations and acquisitions. 
  • Commission, review, and comment on property appraisals used to support negotiations for the acquisition and disposition of property interests.
  • Assist with the preparation of standardized legal documents including Property Purchase Agreements, License Agreements, and Leases.
  • Assist with the preparation of Council Reports and real estate market reports. 
  • Conduct comprehensive research in support of cost/benefit analysis, mitigation strategies, and other purposes related to real property interest and projects.
  • Interpret and utilize technical information, including construction plans, property impact plates/drawings, reference plans and surveys, and environmental study reports in support of negotiations for the acquisition or disposition of property interests.
  • Assist with the creation, implementation, and administration of real estate inventories and land management systems.
  • Respond to inquiries on vacant land, property boundaries, ownership rights and availability of Regional property.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Business, Economics, or Urban Land Use Planning.
  • Demonstrated experience in real estate negotiations and transactions for the acquisition of property interests for capital projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and Geowarehouse.
  • Proficiency in working with surveys and reference plans. 
  • Independently motivated and works well in a virtual and interactive team-oriented environment.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills, with demonstrated negotiation, presentation, analytical, time management and relationship building skills are required, as is familiarity with virtual meeting software. 
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of the Expropriation Act.
  • Demonstrated working experience in the valuation of real property.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.

  • Flexibility in work schedule is required for work outside core office hours as needed.
  • Travel will be required and incumbent must provide their own transportation.
