To be eligible to apply for a summer student position, you must meet the following criteria:
- Legally entitled to work in Canada as a student.
- In possession of a Social Insurance Number (card) at time of hire.
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary educational institution on a full-time basis and returning to school in the fall of 2025.
Duties & Responsibilities
- In communication with customers, maintain a commitment to accessibility, removing barriers and meeting the needs of all people who are accessing Regional programs, services and facilities.
- Address customer inquiries received by telephone, e-mail, teletypewriter (TTY), language translator, via social media and in person at reception counter.
- Learn and maintain an expert awareness of Regional services, service issues, department structures and responsibilities, Regional staff, and members of Council.
- Remain up to date on current events related to Municipal, Provincial, Federal levels of government as well as community services.
- Research information in response to inquiries by following up with departments, using the Internet, and other resources.
- Deliver a wide range of information and referrals on Halton Region and municipal partners’ programs and services.
- Provide information and referrals on Province of Ontario and Government of Canada programs and services.
- Maintain accurate customer records in a Customer Relationship Management computer application.
- Assist the public in accessing information from public use computers.
- Recognize trends in customer behaviour, reactions, and questions and communicate changes to management.
- Work within a team environment where customer service excellence is the standard.
- Perform other duties, as required.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
- Enrolled in post-secondary education in business / office administration, computer studies, customer service or a related discipline.
- Experience delivering a wide range of information and services to diverse customers.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills and a strong commitment to provide excellent customer service.
- Excellent problem solving and complaint resolution skills with the ability to maintain composure when dealing with customer demands.
- Adaptable to change, ability to grasp new concepts quickly, and learn new systems quickly.
- Excels at both team-based and independent work.
- Strong multi-tasking skills, and demonstrated experience in Microsoft Office software, customer relationship management solutions and multimedia (telephone, e-mail, social media and TTY).

- Flexibility in work hours and schedules, including evening, weekends and holidays is required.
- The successful candidate must also be able to sit in a fixed position for approximately 90% of each work shift while working in the contact centre and be able to work at a reception / service desk as required.

- The successful candidate will be made an offer of employment on condition that the Regional Municipality of Halton receives a current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check by the first day of employment.
