Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager of HCHC Facilities Services, the position would be responsible for overseeing facilities operations, ensuring safety, compliance, cost-effective maintenance, budget preparation, and project coordination.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Direct Maintenance and Tenant Service Workers and Maintenance Coordinator Staff, monitor productivity and performance of staff and contractors in maintaining a high quality maintenance and repair program and ensuring safe work practices. 
  • Prepare annual plan and organization of cost effective and timely response for maintenance requirements of Halton Community Housing buildings/homes/properties.
  • Provide technical analysis and recommendations for correction and improvements to maintain facilities at Regional standards and in compliance with all codes, regulations and Regional by-laws.
  • Assist the Manager, HCHC Facilities Services with preparing budgets and variance reports by identifying budget requirements, pressures and opportunities to reduce maintenance costs and meet budgetary requirements. 
  • Work alongside the Manager to help plan and coordinate repair projects
  • Managing and coordinating contractors to ensure work completion to a satisfactory level and address any performance concerns should they arise. 
  • Support various maintenance systems, such as preventative maintenance, to minimize equipment emergency breakdowns, ensure reliability and running of building at peak efficiency levels.
  • Provide up-to-date records of information management for all building equipment and activities.
  • Ensure all work and deficiencies are cleared before sign-off for payment.
  • Responsible for maintaining equipment and inventory for emergency repairs. 
  • Train and direct HCHC facilities maintenance staff in planned response to maintenance and building emergencies.
  • Prioritize daily workloads, co-ordinates staff schedules and rotations to ensure high level of customer service, staff development and consistent coverage of statutory holidays, weekends, evening, vacations and emergency response.
  • Provide coverage and support to HCHC Facilities Maintenance management team.
  • Align, update or create process improvement procedures to ensure a high level of customer service is delivered.
  • Support contract coordinators with contract renewals and evaluations.
  • Support the Capital Construction and Reality division by offering knowledge and information to aid in the execution of capital projects and promote a good relationship and communication for a successful outcome.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Facilities Management or Maintenance Management from a Community College or certification with BOMA or IFMA. A Certificate of Qualification or technical certificate or a commitment to obtaining certification combined with experience will also be considered.
  • A minimum of five (5) years’ experience in facility maintenance management, including demonstrated ability in daily supervision of unionized staff, and strong understanding of budget control, along with solid technical knowledge of H.V.A.C., Electrical, and structural systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Building Codes, Fire Codes and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.
  • Demonstrated experience in project management, an ability to troubleshoot and resolve related technical problems and knowledge of Building Operating and Monitoring Systems.
  • Knowledge of trade level preventive/predictive maintenance procedures.
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to collaborate well in a team.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Yardi Systems, and SAP beneficial.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience or demonstrated knowledge and experience will be accepted.

  • Must supply own transportation in order to travel to various sites throughout the Region.
  • Must receive and respond to after hour call-outs arising during evening hours and on weekends and holidays on a rotational basis. 

Working Conditions

  • Current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Record Check by the first day of employment.
  • Valid Ontario G class driver’s license.
