To be eligible to apply for a co-op student position, you must meet the following criteria:
- Legally entitled to work in Canada as a student.
- In possession of a Social Insurance Number (card) at time of hire.
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary educational institution on a full-time basis and returning to school upon completion of the co-op work term(s).
This position will require the successful incumbent to provide proof of co-op eligibility, a transcript and tax credit form(s) from their school’s co-op department.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Supervisor of Technical & Design Services, this position will provide CADD and technical support for regional infrastructure projects. Typical CADD duties will include editing region standard drawings, creating/editing maps and research for upcoming projects utilizing AutoDesk Civil 3D, GIS, Excel and various other programs.
This position will also provide technical support in tracking and reporting on department project activity, tracking staff Health & Safety training, and participate in coordinating staff assignment resourcing. Opportunity will be presented to assist and observe various positions within Technical Services. The successful candidate can expect to achieve an understanding of how infrastructure projects are developed and delivered.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conduct background project research and summary reports from internal and external sources.
- Compile drawing information using survey data, historical information, CCTV reports, GIS data and permit information.
- Edit and create maps and drawings using AutoCAD for various groups within Halton Region.
- Plot documents and drawings.
- Maintain and track project assignments.
- Enter and interpret spread sheet data.
- Generate and distribute weekly and monthly reports.
- Schedule technical meetings & transcribe meeting minutes.
- Assist with scheduling and tracking staff training.
- Assist various departments within Public Works.
- Provide support to Engineering & Construction.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary Civil Engineering program.
- Experience working with AutoCAD and Civil 3D software.
- Intermediate to Advanced skills utilizing Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Word and Excel.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Able to demonstrate skills in organization, multitasking, teamwork and customer service.
- Collaborative team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
Preferred
- Civil Technology 8 month co-op program.
- Prior experience in inspection, survey or utilizing Civil 3D software.
- Experience with web based GIS applications.
Working/ Employment Conditions
- Long periods of sitting and screen time. Incumbent will have the opportunity to attend design meetings and visit construction sites in Halton Region.
- Incumbent may be required to occasionally move/carry boxes up to 30lbs.
- G2 Ontario Drivers License and access to a reliable vehicle.
- This position is in-person attendance.
