Job Summary
Reporting to the Supervisor, AMI this position is the technical, onsite lead for the Region to ensure quality control & assurance for meter replacements & radio installations completed by contractor during deployment of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI). The position monitors, inspects and documents contractor activities and coordinates with Regional staff, consultants, contractors, and the public to ensure work is completed as per Regional Standards, contractual requirements, and to the satisfaction of Halton’s customers.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Performs detailed field inspections of meter replacement and radio installation activities to ensure assets and the materials and methods used during the AMI deployment comply with all related standards and contract documents.
- Creates and maintains accurate and detailed inspection records.
- Communicates in a professional and courteous manner with residents and businesses regarding AMI project information.
- Supports AMI project compliance processes by engaging in face-to-face interactions as a means to educate and inform customer.
- Demonstrates independent problem solving and draws upon construction/meter experience to resolve or recommend the best approach to technical challenges.
- Supports the response to escalated or sensitive issues related to ensuring water meters are installed to Halton’s standards and to the satisfaction of Halton’s customers.
- Ensures contractual compliance and provides exceptional customer service.
- Creates and maintains professional relationships with Regional staff, consultants, contractors, Councilors, and the public.
- Participates in dispute resolution related to installation of water meter & radio.
- Utilize skills of de-escalation and negotiation to work towards satisfactory outomes.
- Compiles information for reports to AMI project team members and other stakeholders.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
- Secondary School Diploma.
- Three to five (3-5) years of relevant inspection experience.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and knowledge of basic building construction, (e.g. wiring, plumbing, and framing).
- Knowledge and understanding of Ontario Provincial Standards (OPS), American Water Works Association Standards (AWWA), Ontario's Safe Drinking Water Act (SOWA).
- Experience in and knowledge of water meter installations and water distribution and plumbing systems.
- Excellent problem/complaint resolution skills with the ability to maintain professionalism and composure when responding to customer demands.
- Strong customer service orientation skills and ability to deal tactfully and effectively with employees, team members and the public is required.
- Ability to use effective negotiation skills to resolve conflict.
Preferred
- Post-Secondary School Education in a related field.
- Valid Water Meter Installers Certificate.
- Knowledge of backflow prevention and cross connection control.
- Computer aptitude and familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and mobile devices.

Working Conditions
- Flexibility in working hours is required. Weekend hours (Saturdays) are required; evening hours may be required.
- Travel across Halton Region will be required; the incumbent must provide their own transportation.

- A valid Ontario Driver's License.
