To be eligible to apply for a co-op student position, you must meet the following criteria:
- Legally entitled to work in Canada as a student.
- In possession of a Social Insurance Number (card) at time of hire.
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary educational institution on a full-time basis and returning to school upon completion of the co-op work term(s).
This position will require the successful incumbent to provide proof of co-op eligibility, a transcript and tax credit form(s) from their school’s co-op department.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Supervisor of Infrastructure Data Management, this co-op position will support activities related to the maintenance of the regional water, wastewater and storm databases, which are critical to the delivery of Public Works related services.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conducts data collection projects and enters attribute information for the water, wastewater and storm database systems in ArcGIS
- Creates, edits, and geo-references spatial data and updates water, wastewater and storm base mapping themes from engineering drawings using ArcGIS and other custom GIS software tools.
- Research as-constructed engineering drawings required to perform various job functions in ArcGIS
- Assists in the maintenance of records systems related to engineering drawings, manuals, business processes, and other documentation
- Performs various spatial queries and creates custom thematic maps using GIS tools.
- Exports data from regional datasets for use by consultants and the public
- Work as part of a team
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
- Energetic, self-motivated, and well-organized individual with a keen interest in GIS/Geomatics and municipal infrastructure
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills, and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Excellent oral and written skills
- Experience working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools and technology and/or Business Administration; specifically, the ESRI ArcGIS suite of software
- Experience with the MS-Office Suite
Preferred
- Preferred educational qualifications should include GIS courses, a GIS Diploma, Geomatics or GIS related degree at either the college or university level
- Knowledge of geospatial databases and programming tools including Python, and scripting

Working Conditions:
- Travel will be required; incumbent must supply their own transportation.

- The incumbent will be required to provide a copy of their Ontario "G" driver’s license by their first day of employment.
