Job Summary
As an Intern in Data Analytics and GIS, you will play a crucial role in advancing Halton Region's strategic goals by delivering high-quality data analysis and GIS services. Your primary responsibilities will include collecting, managing, integrating, and disseminating data to support critical decision-making. This role involves developing data-driven insights using emerging technologies such as big data, data visualization, IoT, predictive modeling, and machine learning. Additionally, you will support the Water & Wastewater System Services division through various data analysis and GIS-related tasks, contributing to the continuous improvement of processes and strategic initiatives.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Public Works team to collect and analyze data relevant to water and wastewater linear systems.
- Use GIS technology to create maps, analyze spatial data, and support infrastructure planning.
- Develop and maintain databases, ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
- Prepare reports and presentations to communicate findings and support decision-making.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of data management processes.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
- Recently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Engineering, GIS, Geography, Computer Science, Math, or a related field.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data.
- Proficiency with GIS and spatial analysis, with familiarity with ESRI software.
- Experience with data visualization tools and techniques.
- Knowledge of big data, IoT, predictive modeling, and machine learning concepts.
- Experience with Python and SQL.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in database management and ensuring data accuracy.
Preferred
- Knowledge of the water distribution and wastewater collection systems.
- Knowledge or experience with R.
