Job Summary
Reporting to the Supervisor of Building Operations - HCHC, this position is responsible for the day-to-day preventative and routine maintenance requirements of Halton Community Housing Corporation (HCHC) and Regional assets.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform general maintenance duties and repairs to interior & exterior building systems, tenant suites, common spaces including but not limited to Plumbing, HVAC, Drywall repairs, Painting, Electrical, Janitorial, repairs to doors, windows, closet sliders, kitchen and bathroom cabinetry hardware, Landscaping, Fencing, Flooring.
- Oversee and coordinate contracted maintenance services in accordance with established service agreements.
- Conducts daily, weekly, monthly and yearly fire code checks as per the Ontario Fire Code including preventative maintenance, Inspection of fire extinguishers, hose cabinets, exit/emergency lights, pumps, sprinkler systems and maintaining log books as required.
- Preform vacant units as well as minor repairs and maintains a clean environment for new tenants.
- Maintain an adequate inventory of building supplies in conjunction with your Supervisor maintaining at all sites you work at all times.
- Perform thorough daily building and property checks year round and keep log books updated as required.
- During winter months this includes snow and ice removal from building entrances, walkways and common areas using appropriate tools and resources
- Maintain the cleanliness of the sites by picking up debris
- Complete interior and exterior custodial duties as required.
- Complete work orders in a timely manner as per the Service Level Agreement.
- Participate in Annual Unit Inspections and recommend necessary repairs.
- Participate in scheduled Preventative Maintenance repairs with contractors as required.
- Provide excellent customer service through effective communication with tenants and staff with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Assists and participates in mandatory training programs as required for the position.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
- The successful candidate must possess a Secondary School Graduation Diploma (Technical) with a Certificate of Qualification in a Building Trade and three (3) years’ maintenance and minor repairs experience.
- Excellent computer, organizational, interpersonal, oral and written communications skills are required.
- Building Environmental Systems (BES) certificate and knowledge and understanding of various building codes and legislation is an asset (Ontario Fire Code, Ontario Building Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Residential Tenancies Act, Social Housing Reform Act, and Occupiers Liability Act, Accessibility for Ontarians Disabilities Act).
- An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

- Travel will be required with this position, incumbent must provide their own transportation carry tools and supplies.
- Must be able to work at any of the current or future housing locations as assigned.
- Flexibility in working hours.
- May be required to participate in an on-call rotation and respond to after-hours calls.
- Must be able to perform all the necessary physical tasks associated with the maintenance at the assigned buildings.
Employment Conditions
- Current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check, by the first day of employment.
- Must provide a copy of driver’s license by the first day of employment.
