Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Water & Wastewater Planning, the Project Manager is responsible for undertaking water and wastewater studies to support growth in the Region. Key undertakings include the completion of master servicing plans, Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) Studies, development charges background technical studies, and infrastructure staging plans which are integral to the Region’s Development Charge Bylaw and Allocation Programs.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Undertake and/or assist with Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) Studies for water and wastewater infrastructure.
  • Carry out and/or review area specific technical water and wastewater network studies, feasibility studies or other water and wastewater-related studies.
  • Assist with carrying out annual monitoring of available capacity of water and wastewater infrastructure and the ability to service future growth needs.
  • Provide water and wastewater related input and technical support on Regional projects, as well as projects undertaken by others, such as Secondary Plans and Area Servicing Plans by the Local Municipalities, to support growth across the Region.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with staff of Halton Region through developed and demonstrated professionalism, awareness, political acuity and responsive communications.
  • Assist with the development of water and wastewater procedures/policies, preparation of staff reports and recommendations to Regional Council on matters dealing with water and wastewater planning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Environmental Studies/Sciences or Engineering
  • Certification in Ontario as a Professional Engineers Ontario (P.Eng.) or a Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.).
  • Minimum of two to three (2-3) years of progressive experience in water and wastewater analysis and planning municipal water and wastewater infrastructure.
  • Experience in applying water and wastewater industry best practices, standards and guidelines.
  • Demonstrated understanding of water and wastewater related analyses including computer software for hydraulic models, ArcView, ArcInfo, SAP and MS-Office.
  • Familiarity with the principles and practices of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) process.
  • Project management, strategic planning, organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

 

An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Working Conditions:

  • Travel will be required for in person meetings and site visits. Incumbent must supply their own transportation.
