Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide administrative support to Road Operations and Maintenance staff relating to work and assets within the Regional road right-of-way including roads, traffic control devices, shoulders, roadside drainage, safety devices, etc.
- Perform field investigations within Halton Region Regional Road network, including inventories, assessments of infrastructure and observation of various deficiencies and contraventions associated with Halton Region’s Road By-laws.
- Provide periodic inspections of various maintenance works, including annual pavement marking program, crack sealing program, sweeping program, guiderail repairs, tree planting and maintenance, asphalt spot repairs, and permits.
- Perform inspections and condition assessments of the Tourist-Oriented Directional Signing (TODS) and Emergency Detour Route (EDR) program.
- Participate in multi-disciplinary teams that undertake both internal and external projects.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Engineering or equivalent program.
- Demonstrated practical knowledge in Engineering principles, along with a general understanding of road maintenance and asset management practices.
- Possess strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills, along with critical problem-solving, customer service, and effective time management skills.
- Knowledge of OPS Standards, Ontario Traffic Manual (OTM), and Highway Traffic Act (HTA).
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office
Preferred
- Knowledge of databases and GIS applications is an asset.
- Experience working outdoors and near traffic within the Regional road corridor
- Experience safely operating fleet vehicles (pick-up trucks)

- Travel will be required between locations within Halton Region; incumbent must supply their own transportation at times when a fleet vehicle is unavailable.
- Completing outdoor inspections near traffic within the Regional road corridor

- A current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Record Check, by the first day of employment.
- The successful candidate must possess and maintain a valid G class driver’s license.
- The incumbent will be required to drive a Regional vehicle and will be required to provide a copy of their driver’s license and a driver’s abstract, by their first day of employment.
