Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager – Development Engineering, the Supervisor will provide technical supervision to Development Project Managers with respect to reviewing and approving of engineering drawings, construction and administration of water and wastewater facilities required for new development through the planning approval process.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Acts as supervisor and leader for the Development Project Manager staff within the Development Services, including managing and assessing staff performance.
- Reviews engineering drawings of complex projects.
- Reviews and provides comments on complex development applications throughout to ensure water and wastewater system capacity requirements can be met.
- Provides input into the Halton Region’s development related capital budgets and Masterplans, including providing comments and reviewing Area Servicing Plans.
- Liaises with internal staff including Public Works, Regional Development Review, local municipal staff, land developers for review/approval of infrastructure and development applications.
- Responds to general inquiries from residents, consultants, developers and other members of the public in relation to Regional servicing.
- May be required to provide expert witness testimony on Regional servicing matters at Ontario Land Tribunal hearings.
- May be required to review, prepare, or provide input on Council Reports.
- May lead or support the development or updating of manuals and standards.
Skills & Qualifications
- University degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
- Ten (10) years progressive management experience in planning and municipal engineering.
- Knowledge of water and wastewater systems.
- In depth knowledge of the planning and land development process.
- Strong communication skills with internal and external stakeholders. Mediation and organizational skills.
- Creative thinking skills.
Working/ Employment Conditions
- A current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check.
- The working environment follows a hybrid model in accordance with the Region’s Hybrid Work Policy. Travel to operational facilities or other municipalities may be required. The incumbent must provide their own transportation.
- This position may involve contact with residents, senior management, Regional Council members, and governmental and non-governmental organizations.
