Job Summary

Reporting to the Supervisor of Traffic Operations and Safety, this position is responsible for supporting the delivery of road safety and traffic operations initiatives across the Regional road network, with a strong emphasis on data-driven decision-making.

The position supports the Region’s Comprehensive Road Safety Action Plan (CROSAP), the management of the Traffic Engineering Software (TES) database, and the development and implementation of public education campaigns under the Drive Safe program. The role also includes coordination of consultant-led safety reviews and implementation of safety improvements.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of the Comprehensive Road Safety Action Plan (CROSAP), including network screening, collision analysis, and identification of high-risk locations
  • Conduct safety reviews and develop recommendations, including engineering, education, and enforcement-related measures
  • Coordinate and support implementation of safety improvements such as signal timing adjustments, signage enhancements, and intersection modifications
  • Support the Drive Safe program through the development and implementation of public education campaigns, including initiatives focused on U-turn safety and e-scooter awareness and Roundabout uses
  • Work collaboratively with Communications, Halton Regional Police Service, and internal stakeholders to deliver clear and consistent safety messaging
  • Manage and maintain the Traffic Engineering Software (TES) database, ensuring data accuracy and reliability
  • Analyze collision, traffic, and operational data to support program priorities, reporting, and decision-making
  • Coordinate the procurement and management of consultant assignments to undertake targeted road safety reviews, including scope development, oversight of deliverables, and coordination of recommendation implementation
  • Support traffic operations activities, including signal timing reviews, corridor optimization, and use of the Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS)
  • Undertake traffic operations and safety studies, review capital and development projects, and prepare technical reports and recommendations
  • Respond to public inquiries and liaise with internal departments, municipalities, and external agencies on traffic and road safety matters

Skills & Qualifications

Essential

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Traffic Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of 10 years of directly related experience
  • Experience in traffic safety analysis, collision data interpretation, and network screening methodologies
  • Demonstrated experience managing and analyzing transportation data systems such as TES or similar platforms
  • Working knowledge of the Transportation Association of Canada, Ontario Traffic Manuals, and the Highway Traffic Act
  • Proficiency with traffic analysis tools (e.g., Synchro) and strong working knowledge of Excel or similar data tools
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills

Preferred 

  • Registration or eligibility with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians
  • Experience with Advanced Traffic Management Systems (e.g., Centracs)
  • Experience with GIS or data visualization tools

An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

  • The successful candidate will be made an offer of employment on condition that the Regional Municipality of Halton receives a current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check, by the first day of employment.
  • The incumbent will be required to drive a Regional vehicle and will be required to provide a copy of their driver’s license and a driver’s abstract, by their first day of employment.
