Job Summary

This position is responsible providing customer-focused services to internal and external clients on matters relating to traffic operations, maintenance and road-related infrastructure.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Monitoring Regional Traffic Management Centre via CENTRACS ATMS will include maintaining signal timings, levels of service and signal control areas for Regional intersections
  • Manage the Region’s Traffic Engineering Software (TES).
  • Manage the Region’s annual transportation programs: Traffic Data collection and Traffic Hardware.
  • Conduct traffic operational and safety assessments (operations & collision analysis) to improve safety and efficiency of Regional Roads.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining the Region’s Synchro network model.
  • Assist with the Region’s Comprehensive Road Safety Action Plan (CROSAP).
  • Operate and maintain regional streetlighting via Gridlight Management software platform.
  • Prepare and draft safety and traffic operations related reports to Council.
  • Conduct warrant analysis for traffic control devices.
  • Review design drawings and PHM’s for Construction and Engineering tenders and proposed developments
  • Coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams that undertake external projects.
  • Maintain and update components of Regional road traffic and parking bylaws.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

Essential

  • Diploma in Transportation Engineering Technology.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in the area of traffic operations & safety.
  • Strong practical knowledge of Traffic Engineering principles and practices along with comprehensive knowledge of all related acts, manuals, guidelines, and standards namely the TAC GeometricDesign Guide, Ontario Traffic Manual (OTM), Highway Traffic Act (HTA), and Ontario Provincial Standards (OPSD).
  • Essential skills include analytical, organizational, project management, and customer service skills for leading and coordinating Regional initiatives for continuous improvement along withexcellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite, databases, and GIS applications.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration in The Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT).

 

Preferred

  • Experience and familiarity in traffic monitoring within the Regions Traffic Management Center as part of our new Advanced Traffic Management System.
  • Proficiency in the use of Synchro and experience with Traffic Engineering Software (TES).

  • The incumbent will also be required to provide their own transportation at times.
  • At times this position may be required to work early mornings (start 6:00am) or late evenings evenings (finish 7:00pm).

  • The incumbent will be required to drive a Regional vehicle and will be required to provide a copy of their driver’s license and a driver’s abstract, by their first day of employment.
