Job Summary
Reporting to Supervisor, Solid Waste Planning, this position contributes towards various waste management planning, collections and landfill initiatives within the Public Works department, primarily supporting the implementation of the wheeled cart program for garbage and organics across the region. This position will allow you to gain experience in the environmental and waste management industry in a municipal government setting. The successful candidate should be open to providing new and innovative solutions and assist with a wide variety of tasks including project support, program implementation and facilitation.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assists Waste Management staff to support a variety of Solid Waste Management projects, programs and initiatives within Public Works
- Performs data collection and analysis as well as program monitoring and reporting to support the execution of an automated waste collection program
- Provides effective customer service and public outreach and education to various ages, in a variety of settings, on Waste Management programs
- Assists in physically delivering waste management program tools to various locations, including physical acts such as lifting, carrying, walking long distances and conducting outdoor or indoor property site visits as required
- Conducts background research and municipal program scans as required
- Participates in continuous improvement projects and initiatives
- Performs other duties as assigned
Skills & Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Geography, Environmental studies or Sciences, or other related field of study
- Demonstrated skills in MS - Office - Word, Excel and Power Point
- Demonstrate excellent verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently & within a team
- Strong time management skills, be able to manage work flow in order to complete work on time and as expected, and if required, the ability to work remotely from home
- Must be able to perform physical tasks associated with waste program implementation including lifting objects or waste materials, carrying and/or moving waste containers of various sizes, walking and delivering promotional materials
Working/ Employment Conditions
- A valid Ontario Class G driver’s license including valid drivers abstract is required.
- Travel will be required between office locations within Halton Region. The incumbent must supply their own transportation.
