Job Summary
Reporting to a Superintendent of Wastewater Treatment, this role is responsible for the operational and process decisions at the wastewater treatment plant identified above to ensure compliance of all regulatory requirements with the aim of protecting human health and the natural environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure operational compliance and provide exceptional customer service.
- Act as ORO when designated.
- Responsible for operational activities supporting optimization and efficiency efforts at specific wastewater treatment plants.
- Direct and supervise assigned personnel in day to day operations, taking all steps reasonably necessary to ensure work is completed responsibly in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with relevant operations manuals and work instructions.
- Ensure that operations are measured, monitored, sampled and tested in a manner that permits them to be adjusted when necessary and records of such adjustments are made.
- Hire, supervise, evaluate and performance manage all direct reports, including responding to bargaining unit grievances as required by the collective agreement.
- Support Superintendents and Operations Staff to ensure all Occupational Health and Safety, MECP and MOLrequirements are followed.
- Responsible for tracking specific operational budgets.
- Provide in field training and work instructions as they pertain to the job.
- Responsible for incident reporting, as required.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for staff certification tracking, training monitoring and reporting as well as ensuring compliance with all requirements.
- Responsible for ensuring day to day notifications to maintenance are inputted by operations staff as well as assigning priorities to these work notifications based on risk they pose to operations.
- Responsible for initiating required Process improvement forms or Business Cases that are requesting plant level physical or process control changes.
- Support the Total Productive Maintenance strategy and help in the development and delivery of a partnership program for reliable equipment.
- Support the Plant Capital and Engineering Group for the successful delivery of capital projects.
- Support Divisional, Departmental or Corporate Initiatives with the goal of continuous improvement.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
- Must possess and maintain Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) Class IV Wastewater Treatment Certificate and periodically be deemed Overall Responsible Operator.
- Must have Secondary School Diploma or equivalent with 4 years of additional education or training the MECP Director considers relevant.
- A minimum of seven (7) years of progressive experience in municipal wastewater treatment. An equivalent of education and experience will be considered.
- Familiarity with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) System.
- Possess a thorough understanding of regulations enforced by the MECP, Ministry of Labour (MOL), Ministry of Transportation (MTO), Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA), Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) and other relevant legislation related to wastewater treatment.
- Must demonstrate the ability to hire and coach operators, plan and organize work, clearly deliver instructions, and provideappropriate feedback.
- Knowledge of troubleshooting skills and corrective action in a dynamic and fast pace wastewater treatement environment.
- Co-operative team member who possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- An aptitude for computers is required in order to effectively manage work orders within the Infor and/or SAP-PMCMMS system.

Working Conditions
- This position requires on-site supervision with limited hybrid flexibility.
- You are required to serve on a rotating standby schedule, respond to after hour calls, periodically work on shifted hours and act as Overall Responsible Operator when required.
- The incumbent must oversee and perform designated duties in inclement weather and possibly during emergency situations.
- There is the possibility of reassignment of this position to another Regional facility and you may be required to serve on planned rotations within the division.

- The successful candidate will be made an offer of employment on condition that the Regional Municipality of Halton receives a current (obtained within the past twelve (12) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check, by the first day of employment.
- The incumbent will be required to drive a Regional vehicle and will be required to provide a copy of their driver’s license and a driver’s abstract, by their first day of employment.
