Job Summary
The Motor Vehicle Mechanic Apprentice position is open to anyone interested in beginning an apprenticeship program or engaged in a first-year 310S or 310T Motor Vehicle Mechanic apprenticeship.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform under the supervision of a licensed mechanic; annual inspections, preventative maintenance and repairs to all Public Works, Halton Police and Halton Ambulance vehicles, including off-road equipment and small equipment.
- Interpret Service & Maintenance manuals, diagrams, schematics, prints and recommend revisions.
- Assist mechanics and other staff with various maintenance and repair jobs.
- Ensures accurate documentation of vehicle repair work orders, daily timesheets and other related documents including any apprenticeship requirements.
- Utilize CMMS to record all work performed, source equipment parts, equipment history, and modify and update work status as required.
- Functions as a member of a dynamic team and always demonstrating team co-operation.
- Complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Halton Region’s safety standards and Code of Conduct.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
- The successful candidate must possess a High School Diploma and be either interested in becoming an apprentice or already be a 1st Year 310S or 310T Apprentice.
- The candidate must have a minimum of one (1) year related work experience and a valid Ontario driver’s license.
- Experience in municipal vehicle/ equipment maintenance and SAP is an asset.
- Mechanic’s tools are also considered an asset.

Working Conditions
- The successful candidate will be made an offer of employment on condition that the Regional Municipality of Halton receives a current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check, by the first day of employment.
- The candidate will be required to drive a Regional vehicle and will be required to provide a copy of their driver’s license and a driver’s abstract, by their first day of employment.
Employment Conditions
- Flexibility in working hours will be required. Stand-by duties may be required.
- The candidate must be prepared to work both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.
- The incumbent must be able to perform all the necessary physical tasks associated with the position including lifting, bending, kneeling, crawling, etc.
- The successful candidate must be registered with the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities and/or Skilled Trades Ontario.
- This position requires the incumbent to work 40 hours per week, 7:30AM – 4:00PM.
- Incumbents may be required to work outside regular hours as per collective agreement provisions.
