- You have graduated or will graduate with a recognized post-secondary degree or diploma, post-graduate certificate or diploma between January 2024 and June 2025.
Job Summary
This position will support the Health Emergency Management Advisor in the development, implementation and training related to the Health Emergency Response Plan, as well as supporting public health programs with Business Continuity Plans. Public Health Emergency Management is an emerging area and this is your opportunity to work with experts in the field to expand your knowledge of Public Health and apply your training in Emergency Management.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop training materials for Halton Health staff who have responsibilities within the 2025 Health Emergency Response Plan.
- Support updating Health Emergency Response Plan Annexes, such as Mass Immunization and Extreme Weather plans.
- Support the Public Health programs with Business Continuity Planning and relevant workshops with divisions in Public Health.
- Integrate findings of the COVID After Action Review into Public Health Emergency Management Plans.
- Update Health Department Emergency Management webpage and Halton Central webpage, as needed. Conduct environment scans as well as monitor media and other emergency management sources for relevant hazards in public health, while updating the Halton Public Health HIRA tracker.
- Conduct assessment and analysis to support surge modeling and learning pathways for staff re- deployments and other Public Health Emergency Management functions in the 2025 Operational Plan.
- Develop and conduct a Health emergency exercise to test the Health Emergency Response Plan and Business Continuity Plan, if opportunity allows.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
- Degree or post-graduate diploma in Emergency Management.
- Demonstrated experience in emergency response planning, including an understanding of Ontario’s Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act and knowledge of other related regulations and legislation.
- Demonstrated ability to confidently communicate, and coordinate emergency planning and response initiatives with internal and external representatives.
- Experience in preparing and delivering high-quality written reports, presentations and educational programs/workshops.
- Time management skills with the ability to manage work flow in order to complete work on time and as expected.
- Ability to work in a self-directed manner to establish priorities and balance multiple projects.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office programs.
- Behave in a manner that contributes to healthy and safe work environment, positive workplace culture, and working collaboratively with others.
Preferred
- Education and/or experience in Public Health.
- Knowledge of ArcGIS.

- Available to work flexible hours (evenings/weekends), if an emergency should occur.
- Travel within Halton Region may be required to meet with staff at Regional offices or in the event of an emergency related to public health. The incumbent must provide their own transportation.
