To be eligible to apply for a summer student position, you must meet the following criteria:
- Legally entitled to work in Canada as a student.
- In possession of a Social Insurance Number (card) at time of hire.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist with inspection of facilities and premises to assess compliance with pertinent acts, regulations and by-laws such as food premises, personal service settings, and recreational water facilities.
- Assist with investigations regarding complaints, health hazards, and or communicable diseases.
- Collect samples for analysis to measure biological parameters in recreational water.
- Collect, interpret and report on laboratory test results.
- Work collaboratively with a team of certified Public Health Inspectors.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
- Enrolled or completing an approved Environmental Public Health program that is recognized by the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI).
- Strong verbal and written communications skills along with the ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Competency in current computer programs (Microsoft Office).
Preferred
- Preference will be given to candidates who have completed the CIPHI approved Environmental Public Health Program and are preparing for the CIPHI Board of Certification Exams in October 2025.

- Travel may be required between locations within Halton Region and GTA.
- Must supply own transportation and have a valid Ontario driver’s license.
- Flexibility in work schedule may be required for after hours and weekend work.

- The incumbents will be required to provide a copy of their driver’s license by their first day of employment.
- The successful candidate will be made an offer of employment on condition that the Regional Municipality of Halton receives a current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Record Check by the first day of employment.
