Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager of Communicable Diseases (CD), the CD Supervisor is responsible for providing supervision, support and performance management to a multidisciplinary team, including Public Health Nurses, CD RN Specialists, and Program Assistants. The team will be responsible for infectious diseases case and contact management of diseases of public health significance (DOPHS), infection prevention and control and DOPHS outbreak management in accordance with Ontario Public Health Standards and Guidelines. Flexibility in working hours is required to support on-call duties and there may be periodic meetings and functions outside of regular business hours.
Duties & Responsibilities
Leadership
- Lead employees of various disciplines in a manner that is inclusive, committed to developing staff and building a positive culture where individuals feel recognized and valued.
- Support the interpretation and application of provincial policies and guidance documents and ensure best practices are adhered to in accordance with these documents.
- Develop and implement necessary policies, procedures, protocols incorporating evidence-informed practices.
- Ensure staff receive adequate orientation and ongoing training to meet the requirements of their position.
- Ensure accurate and consistent application of the ONA 1 Collective Agreement
Quality Improvement
- Support quality improvement projects with a focus on data-driven outcomes.
- Oversee quality assurance regarding team performance and professional practice.
- Analyze service levels and performance indicators to assist the Manager in evaluating program efficacy.
- In collaboration with the Divisional leadership team, assess and monitor risk and develop risk management strategies including developing and maintaining business continuity plans and managing surge capacity.
External & Internal Communication
- Collaborate and manage relationships with internal and external community partners, including responding to inquiries from the public, hospital partners, Regional Departments and Ministries.
- Facilitate effective stakeholder engagement and group facilitation to support program enhancements and innovations.
- Provide support for external communications including web updates and urgent communications to physicians and other community partners.
- Participate in divisional, departmental, interdepartmental, corporate and community committees as required.
- Develop and support written reports for Regional council and Ministry of Health
On-Call Responsibilities
- Participate in on-call duties as outlined in relevant policies and procedures (e.g., MMSC/OCT Role & Responsibilities).
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing, with a current Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario showing entitlement to practice with no restrictions.
- Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience.
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in Public Health.
- Exceptional leadership skills to lead, coach, inspire, influence, motivate and support a diverse team of professionals.
- Strong knowledge of public health competencies and effective public health practice to determine interventions that improve the health of residents.
- Strong knowledge of Ontario Public Health Standards, the standards of practice for Registered Nurses, legislation and mandates governing public health issues (e.g. Health Protection and Promotion Act, Mandatory Blood Testing Act).
- Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills, exceptional interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse community partners and organizations, provide excellent customer service.
- Strong knowledge and demonstrated skills in strategic planning, project management, change management and stakeholder engagement.
- Knowledge of supervising staff in a unionized environment and financial management of public health programs and strong political acuity is required.
- An equivalent amount of education and experience will be considered.

Working Conditions
- Flexibility in working hours is required to support 24/7 on-call and there may be periodic meetings and functions outside of regular business hours.
- Periodic travel within Halton and Ontario is required and you must supply your own transportation.

- Current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Screen by the first day of employment.
- Must be able to provide a current complete record of immunization according to the Ontario provincial immunization schedule.
