- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary educational institution on a full-time basis and returning to school in the fall of 2025.
Job Summary
Reporting to the Research and Data Advisor, this position is responsible for providing GIS and Data support for the Strategic Initiatives team within the CAO's office. The GIS student will have the opportunity to work on a variety of GIS, Data and related activities in support of strategic initiatives and roll-out of GIS upgrades at Halton Region.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Create, publish and update web services on ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise and ArcGIS Server.
- Assist with developing and testing web mapping viewers, dashboards and other tools on ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise.
- Update and maintain GIS databases such as development tracking, environmental data and contaminated sites, assistance with Environmental Site Assessments and permits.
- Assist with day to day data and mapping requests from internal and external clients with various software such as ArcGIS Pro and ArcMap.
- Assist with documenting Meta data.
- Assist with documenting business process flows, and identifying possible improvements.
- Opportunities to job shadow with the Strategic Initiatives GIS and Data team and participation in various projects and initiatives involving GIS and data.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary education with demonstrated education and experience with ESRI GIS, data and related technologies.
- Demonstrated experience and/or education with web GIS including working with web services, ArcGIS Online and/or ArcGIS Enterprise.
- Energetic, self-motivated and well-organized.
- Excellent oral and written communication.
Preferred
- Experience with GIS programming and scripting.
- Experience with developing GIS web mapping applications and viewers using Geocortex, ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Javascript API.
- Experience with SQL programming and/or FME Data ETL software.

Working Conditions
- This role will be a mix of in-office and hybrid work. The successful candidate should expect to work in-person at the office at least 3 days per week.
- Travel may be required on occasion for site visits.
