Job Summary

The Halton Community Housing Corporation (HCHC) – Tenant Relations and Community Wellbeing Advisor is responsible for leading the HCHC Tenant Relations and Community Wellbeing Team.  The team’s mandate is to facilitate community development and provide 1:1 support for residents of the 36 HCHC communities across Halton. The successful applicant will provide strategic guidance, staff development, case coordination for extremely complex cases and portfolio-wide planning for community development. They will also be responsible for the evaluation of the team’s achievements towards the creation of healthy, engaged, and inclusive communities. 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide supervisory day-to-day direction and leadership to the Tenant Relations and Community Wellbeing Team
  • Partner with the HCHC Management Team and other key partners to ensure a cohesive one-team approach across the portfolio
  • Review cases requiring 1:1 support and assign as appropriate to team members or coordinate cases in extremely complex circumstances
  • Represent HCHC on community round tables and initiatives
  • Administer and report on the HCHC Community Development Budget
  • Ownership of the HCHC Community Development Strategy including reporting, updates and strategic alignment with the Halton Region Strategic Business Plan
  • Oversee HCHCs agreements with external providers
  • Proactively seek out partnerships and opportunities to expand Community Development initiatives in HCHC communities
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, tenants and community agencies by communicating current events that affect tenants. 
  • Oversee the analysis and reporting of data regarding the effective implementation of community development initiatives and 1:1 case coordination support

Skills & Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree in a Social or Human Services field
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years of progressive experience leading community development or client wellness initiatives, including at least three (3) to five (5) years supervising staff in a customer-facing environment.
  • Proficient written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with demonstrated political acuity and understanding of regional government processes.
  • Demonstrated excellence in customer service.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) principles.
  • Well-developed communication and relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders, including Halton-based non-profits, with demonstrated mediation, sound judgment, and organizational abilities.
  • Knowledge and application of relevant legislation (e.g., Housing Services Act).
  • Familiarity with the Yardi suite of systems.
  • Familiarity with Landlord and Tenant Board processes.
  • Experience in adult education and facilitation.
  • Demonstrated creative thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience collaborating across teams and/or sectors.
  • Experience evaluating community programs and services.

Working Conditions

  • The working environment follows a hybrid model in accordance with the Region’s Hybrid Work Policy.  Travel to HCHC sites will be required. The incumbent must provide their own transportation.
  • This position may involve contact with residents, senior management, Regional Council members, and governmental and non-governmental organizations.
