- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary educational institution on a full-time basis and returning to school in the fall of 2026.
Job Summary
The HCHC – Community Development Summer Student is responsible for working with Halton Community Housing Corporation (HCHC) staff to support community development initiatives in HCHC communities across Halton. The successful student will help staff develop, plan and implement initiatives leveraging a variety of technical and communication skills to enable tenants to be active participants in the creation of healthy, engaged, and inclusive communities.
Duties & Responsibilities
• In collaboration with Halton Community Housing Corporation staff, tenants and community agencies, support the development, implementation, evaluation and promotion of community development initiatives and materials.
• Supporting community development initiatives within Halton Community Housing Corporation housing communities under the leadership of Halton Community Housing Corporation staff
• Support the Halton Community Housing Corporation Youth Council
• Learn how HCHC encourages vibrant communities through community development and tenant engagement.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, tenants and community agencies by communicating current events that affect tenants.
• Identify opportunities for future partnerships and opportunities for enhanced or on-site support services provided by third parties in buildings, especially those with high numbers of vulnerable residents.
• Support the collection and analysis of data regarding the effective implementation of community development initiatives.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
• Awareness of HCHC community development initiatives
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience volunteering or working with youth led or youth involved community organizations.
• Sound customer service skills.
• Effective communication and judgement skills
• Knowledge of and commitment to the principles of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.
• Well-developed conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
• Preference for students with experience with group facilitation including formal and non-formal settings.
• Preference for students with lived experience in HCHC communities

- The successful candidate will be made an offer of employment on condition that the Regional Municipality of Halton receives a current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check by the first day of employment.
