Job Summary
The Water Treatment Operator will be responsible for operating, maintaining and inspecting water treatment facilities and related equipment.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Monitors, analyses and adjusts process parameters.
- Performs data trending analysis and interpretation at various stages of the treatment process and maintains accurate records and logs.
- Undertakes minor servicing of equipment.
- Participates on project teams and assists in the evaluation and implementation of capital projects and optimization.
- Conducts facility tours for members of the public, schools, Regional staff and Council.
- Carries out housekeeping, janitorial and general maintenance duties.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
- Secondary school diploma and an Operator-in-Training license in Water Treatment.
- Demonstrated technical (instrumentation, electrical, mechanical) aptitude and computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Strong communication skills for interacting with co-workers, management, internal groups, and the public are required along with troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to take initiative, work independently, and as an effective team player with strong communication, customer service, and collaboration skills will be keys to success.
Preferred
- Post-secondary school education in a related environmental field and with Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) water treatment licensing (Levels 1 to 4).
- Experience with water operation processes.
- Knowledge, understanding, and experience with the application of related legislation and acts (Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ontario Water Regulation Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, Environmental Protection Act).
- Familiarity with SCADA technology.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.

Working Conditions
- Work in confined spaces as specified in work instructions.
- Handle various chemicals as part of their job functions in accordance with related policies and guidelines.
- Lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs.
- This position will require the incumbent to work alternating shifts. The work model includes a combination of Monday to Friday (8 hours per day) and Continental Shift work (12 hour day and 12 hour night shifts). The successful incumbent will be expected to work both work weeks to meet operational needs.
Employment Conditions
- Maintain a valid Class G Ontario driver’s license.
- Maintain MECP operator licensing for Water Treatment.
- Perform standby on a rotational basis.
- Respond to after-hour callouts within a maximum of one (1) hour time limit from the time of the call.
- Current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check, by the first day of employment.
- The incumbent will be required to drive a Regional vehicle and will be required to provide a copy of their driver’s license and a driver’s abstract, by their first day of employment.
