Job Summary
The Facilities Maintenance Operator operates, monitors and adjusts all building automation systems, environmental controls, mechanical, electrical and fire suppression equipment at multiple facilities.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Completes and ensures that accurate system operating logs, records are routinely kept.
- Oversees and co-ordinates contracted maintenance services relating to equipment and grounds.
- Conducts complete tours of inspections of mechanical and electrical rooms, equipment, common areas and grounds.
- Ensures operation of mechanical and electrical systems meet applicable codes and investigates the cause of problems, breakdowns and abnormal wear, makes adjustments to correct and completes any minor repairs required.
- Performs and maintains Scheduled Preventative Maintenance Program and Demand Maintenance on all equipment relating to mechanical, electrical, and building infrastructure.
- Perform small repairs including cutting, drywall patching, and painting.
- Maintains and ensures that chemical treatment programs and procedures are followed.
- Maintaining a clean and safe workshop/area/tools.
- Co-ordinates the shutdown of equipment with clients and contractors when necessary to affect repairs or dismantle equipment for replacement of parts or servicing.
- Create, assign, monitor and close daily preventative/reactive maintenance work orders.
- Performs the work of the maintenance unit in all related areas including Regional Council, events set-up & tear down, the shipping and receiving of goods and the moving of office furniture as required.
- Must wear proper PPE and comply with all health & safety standards as directed.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
- Trade certificate, courses related to mechanical, environmental systems and building technology.
- Three (3) years' experience in building and environmental systems operations.
- Experience with Building Automation Systems and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems.
- Must have the ability to understand basic plans, diagrams and blueprints and to perform a variety of semi- skilled electrical and mechanical tasks.
- Computer skills using Microsoft Office Products.
- Good communication, customer service and teamwork skills.
- The ability to work with minimal supervision and the knowledge of Health & Safety and WHMIS regulations.
Preferred
- Preference will be given to an applicant with a trade license.
- BES or BOMA certification.
- Working knowledge of ESA, TSSA, OBC, OFC, OHSA

- Flexibility in working hours will be required including the ability to work shifts, perform evening, weekend and holiday standby and emergency call-ins on a rotational basis are required.

- The incumbent may be required to drive a Regional vehicle and will be required to provide a copy of their "G" driver's license and a driver's abstract, by their first day of employment.
The successful candidate will be made an offer of employment on condition that the Regional Municipality of Halton receives a current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check, by the first day of employment.
