Job Summary

Reporting to a Project Manager III, this position is responsible for managing facilities capital projects.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage facilities capital projects under the direction of the Manager, Asset Management and State of Good Repair.
  • Prepare technical reports and staff reports.
  • Ensure the full involvement of client divisions/departments in the implementation of their projects.
  • Recommend, engage, direct, and supervise consulting engineers and architects for the design and contract administration of construction and renovation of Regional facilities; engages speciality consultants to confirm that the projects are constructed in conformance with the contracts.
  • Procure, direct and supervise contractors for the construction, renovations, upgrades and demolitions of Regional facilities.
  • Exercise effective cost, schedule and quality control of Capital Projects.
  • Ensure that the works are constructed in compliance with the contract documents and Halton’s Health and Safety Policies.
  • Provide full project management throughout all project phases (project initiation, planning, execution, performance/control and close-out).
  • Negotiate and resolves claims and disputes from outside providers.
  • Provide customer service excellence in project delivery.
  • Responsible for mentoring junior team members.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Architecture, Engineering or Construction Project Management with a strong background in Project Management.
  • Minimum of six (6) years of project management and construction experience in a public organization.
  • Experience delivering complex capital projects within a set schedule and budget, as well as expert planning, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent leadership qualities.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, along with strong facilitation, negotiation and dispute resolution skills are required to interface with multiple stakeholders including regional staff, residents, contractors, and consultants.
  • Knowledge of evolving technologies, architecture, municipal/regional facilities operations, in-depth technical engineering and construction knowledge and be familiar with relevant standards, documentation and legislation.
  • Demonstrated experience with team work, public tendering processes and contract administration.
