To be eligible to apply for a co-op student position, you must meet the following criteria:
- Legally entitled to work in Canada as a student.
- In possession of a Social Insurance Number (card) at time of hire.
- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary educational institution on a full-time basis and returning to school upon completion of the co-op work term(s).
This position will require the successful incumbent to provide proof of co-op eligibility, a transcript and tax credit form(s) from their school’s co-op department.
Job Summary
We are seeking a co-op student to complete a eight to twelve month term from September 2025 – August 2026 working 35 hours per week.
Reporting to Supervisor, Solid Waste Planning, this position contributes towards various waste management planning, collections and landfill initiatives within the Public Works department. This placement will allow you to gain experience in the environmental and waste management industry in a municipal government setting. The successful candidate should be open to providing new and innovative solutions and assist with a wide variety of tasks including project support and program implementation and facilitation.

- Assists Waste Management staff to support a variety of Solid Waste Management projects, programs and initiatives within Public Works
- Performs data collection and analysis to support the execution of an automated waste collection program
- Conducts background research and municipal program scans as required
- Participate in continuous improvement projects and initiatives
- Assists in supplying waste management program tools to various locations and conducts site visits as required
- Provides customer service as required
- Performs other duties as assigned

- Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Engineering, Applied science, Geography, Environmental studies or Sciences, or other related field of study is required.
- Demonstrated skills in MS - Office - Word, Excel and Power Point are essential.
- Demonstrate excellent verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently & within a team.
- Strong time management skills, be able to manage work flow in order to complete work on time and as expected, and if required, the ability to work remotely from home.

- A valid Ontario Class G driver’s license is required.
- Travel will be required between office locations within Halton Region. The incumbent must supply their own transportation.
- Must be able to perform physical tasks associated with waste program implementation.
