Job Summary
Receive and respond to customer inquiries/complaints regarding waste collection services while providing exceptional customer service. Maintain and manage databases that document calls received, collection locations, levels of service, collection schedules and contact information. Dispatch calls to internal and external contractors, Regional staff, municipal partners, school boards for inspection and customer service response. Perform after-hours standby duties.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Responds to and resolves complaints and inquiries received from the public regarding waste collection services and programs in a timely manner.
- Dispatches service requests to on road monitoring staff and contractors, and closes all inquiries by performing call backs and updates to residents, municipal partners, school boards, commercial property owners and apartment buildings.
- Maintains and updates daily monitoring schedules and prepares and delivers daily task schedules to staff and collection contractors.
- Utilizes contractor supplied web based software interfaces to confirm collections and help resolve complaints/inquiries while liaising with contractors and Regional on-road staff.
- Monitors and maintains scheduled waste collection appointments related to waste collection bookings and documents for invoicing purposes.
- Updates and maintains all databases identifying apartment, municipal and commercial collection locations including contact information and collection schedules.
- Prepares and maintains reports and documentation related to customer service calls received and their resolution.
- Liaises with Access Halton staff by responding to forwarded calls/inquiries and providing updates on calls and stat of waste collection services.
- Updates and maintains notices and letters utilized for public information on waste services.
- Provides administrative support for Waste Management staff.
- Performs other duties as required.
Skills & Qualifications
- Minimum of two (2) years’ experience providing customer service to the public.
- Post secondary education in related environmental field, or administrative field.
- Experience in Waste Management services.
- Excellent problem solving, organizational and customer service skills with the ability to manage high volumes of calls from the public.
- Experience maintaining database systems, online file systems and reports.
- An aptitude for computers is required with knowledge with MS Office, MS One drive, and database management.
- Experience utilizing Siebel call system, Salesforce systems, or similar call management systems.
- De-escalation training or similar customer service experience in dealing with escalated customer service calls.

- The incumbent must have Flexibility in work hours including serving on rotational standby schedule and work on the occasional Saturday is required.
- Office work environment.
- Must be able to perform all the necessary physical tasks associated with the position (bending, reaching, sitting for extended periods, lifting in excess of 15lbs).
