Job Summary

Reporting to the Senior Projects Advisor in Waste Management, this position is responsible for managing and maintaining waste management data, software applications, and associated reporting systems. This includes providing technical and administrative support for the planning, implementation, and enhancement of software and databases related to waste management operations. The role involves data analysis, monitoring key performance indicators, conducting database maintenance, ensuring accurate data flow to support decision-making and continuous improvement in services. 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage the collection, storage, and maintenance of waste management data from various sources (waste collection and diversion programs). 
  • Assist in the design, build, and maintenance of data models, dashboards, reports, mapping and supporting information in Waste Management.
  • Ensures the accuracy, completeness, and consistency of data contained in databases and any applicable software systems.
  •  Develops and maintains data integrity standards and protocols.
  • Responsible for continued development and maintenance of a Waste Management data catalogue ensuring adherence to metadata standards 
  • Analyzes, interprets, and reports on a range of data.
  • Collaborate with waste management staff to identify patterns, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement in waste management operations. 
  • Provide data analytics services to help Waste Management to solve business problems, assist in the facilitation of reporting and develop business requirements.
  • Assist in the development of new processes and workflows that enhance data collection, management, and reporting. 
  • Assist in the establishment of best practices, developing, reviewing and interpreting performance metrics to support services and programs. 
  • Familiarity with GIS and related software to liaise with other departments to compile and manage address data and maps for waste management service delivery.
  • Liaise with other departments to identify data needs, sources and solutions and ensure reporting needs  and requirements are being met.
  • Support Waste Management’s legislative compliance and reporting requirements.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Environmental Science, Geography or related field.
  • Minimum three (3) years of progressive responsibilities related to data management.
  • Strong proficiency in data analysis, database management, and computer software applications. 
  • Familiarity with waste management operations and related software systems. 
  • Knowledge of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) or related software. 
  • Experience with business process modeling and project management techniques, spreadsheet applications, database systems, statistical analysis, and MS Office applications. 
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, time management and oral and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team. 
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy and integrity. 
  • Strong analytical skills to manage, validate and analyze information from databases.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

  • A valid Ontario Class G driver's license is required for travel between locations within Halton Region will be necessary. Incumbent must supply own transportation.
  • Current (obtained within the past (6) six months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check, by the first day of employment.
