Job Summary

The Data Analytics Intern will support key projects and initiatives that advance Halton Region’s Digital and Data Strategies as a member of the Digital Strategy division. This role offers hands-on experience across both business analysis and technical development domains. The successful candidate will contribute to activities such as process documentation, requirements gathering, data pipeline development, business intelligence reporting, and assisting with cloud and system administration tasks. This position is ideal for a student eager to apply analytical thinking, technical skills, and curiosity to real-world municipal challenges.

Duties & Responsibilities

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with stakeholders across Halton Region, including teams within Digital & Information Services department and others.
  • Participate in meetings to understand business needs, operational challenges, and improvement opportunities.
  • Support the gathering, refinement, and communication of project requirements.
  • Contribute analysis that informs data-driven decision-making and service improvements.

Technical & Data Analytics Support

  • Assists in the development and maintenance of data pipelines, integrations, and related data management activities.
  • Supports the creation, enhancement, and validation of business intelligence dashboards and reports.
  • Provides assistance on technical tasks related to cloud architecture, system administration, DevOps processes, and database/data lake/data warehouse environments.
  • Supports troubleshooting and issue resolution for data and system-related inquiries.

Skills & Qualifications

Essential

  • Experience with Python or similar programming languages (Java, C#, JavaScript, Go, Rust)
  • Experience in Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) and SQL.
  • Enrolled in Post Secondary university program in Engineering, Computer Science, Math or related field.
  • Coursework or certifications in Data Analytics/Business Intelligence, Software Development, Systems Administration, Cloud Platforms
  • The candidate should have a willingness to learn new concepts and be able to accept feedback on project deliverables and ongoing work.

Hybrid, 3 days in the office (Anchor days Tuesday and Thursday for team meetings and collaboration, 3rd day is staff choice). Remaining 2 days remote.
