To be eligible to apply for a summer student position, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada as a student.
  • In possession of a Social Insurance Number (card) at time of hire.
  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary educational institution on a full-time basis and returning to school in the fall of 2025.

Job Summary

This role supports the team of Wastewater Operators by completing operational and lab duties, collecting data, and general maintenance.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Wash and/or paint walls, windows and other structures/surfaces.
  • Sweep/remove debris from sidewalk, walkways, building grounds and other areas. 
  • Relocate, replenish and monitor material/products/supplies at and/or between job sites.
  • Load and unload trucks with supplies and equipment.
  • Assist in routine maintenance and repair of equipment.
  • Attend Health and Safety training to ensure personal safety complies with Provincial legislated standards. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

Essential

  • Enrolled at a recognized college or university in a Water/Wastewater or an Environmental related program.
  • Interest in gaining hands-on experience in Wastewater Operations. 
  • Strong technical aptitude.
  • Well-organized and self-motivated.

 

Preferred

  • Experience with computer software including Microsoft computer applications .

Working/ Employment Conditions

Working Conditions

  • The incumbent must be able to work outdoors, in various weather conditions and be able to perform all the necessary physical tasks associated with the position including lifting up 25lbs.
  • The incumbent will be required to safely handle designated substances, including caustic and acidic chemicals.
  • Wastewater activities also involve working in unsanitary or odorous conditions at times.

  • The successful candidate will be made an offer of employment on condition that the Regional Municipality of Halton receives a current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check, by the first day of employment.
