Job Summary

This role reports to the Supervisor, Housekeeping & Laundry, providing housekeeping services to the residents living in the home. This includes cleaning and disinfecting the resident rooms, bathrooms, and common areas of the facility, as well as ensuring proper stock of supplies.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Clean and/or disinfect all surfaces including fixtures, equipment and washroom facilities.
  • Mop and polish designated floor areas using various floor cleaning equipment.
  • Vacuum and shampoo carpeted areas.
  • Empty and clean garbage cans throughout all areas of the facility.
  • Clean walls and windows as required.
  • Stock supplies as required.
  • Respond in a timely fashion to priorities and/or emergencies as instructed by the Supervisor or Registered Staff.
  • Provide meal time assistance.
  • Attend and participate in meetings. 
  • Attend legislated training as required.
  • Adhere to Policies and Procedures, Rules and Regulations and Ministry Standards as set forth by the Corporation/Division/Department.
  • Function as part of the Resident Home area team.
  • Work co-operatively with team members, family members and staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
     

Skills & Qualifications

Essential

  • Secondary School Graduation Diploma
  • Ability to operate housekeeping equipment and a general knowledge and understanding of workplace safety.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, strong time management skills and the ability to work both in a team and independently.
  • An understanding of the Residents’ Bill of Rights and Compliance Standards as set out by the Ministry of Long Term Care.

 

Preferred

  • Experience working in housekeeping for a long-term care facility, nursing home or hospital.

  • The incumbent must be able to perform all the necessary physical tasks associated with the position including lifting approximately 50 lbs., pushing, pulling, and moving heavy materials, equipment and boxes.

 

Employment Conditions 

  • Current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screening by the first day of employment.
  • Current two-step tuberculosis test (obtained within the past six (6) months) by the first day of employment
