Job Summary
The Meals on Wheels Worker is responsible for the organizing and distribution on meals for the Meals on Wheels program. This position is also maintains dietary information and delivery routs of the clients while ensuring food safety and quality.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Maintains accurate records on dietary requirements for all clients to ensure receipt of appropriate meals.
- Maintains accurate route information for clients to ensure receipt of meals in a timely manner.
- Responsible for temperature maintenance of chilled food and hot food ensuring food safety and product quality including documenting all temperature and quality information.
- Responsible for monitoring and recording temperature of fridge and freezer
- Organizes and co- ordinates the portioning, re-thermalizing, packing and distribution of meals on wheels and frozen meals.
- Interact directly with meals on wheels drivers and meals on wheels coordinators in organizing and distribution of meals. Ensure all products are labelled with the appropriate expiry dates.
- Maintains excellent customer relations by providing timely and efficient service.
- Reports to the Nutrition Services Supervisor any quality issues in a timely manner ensuring resolution and appropriate follow up.
- Orders and monitors inventory to ensure control of food and non-food items.
- Cleans and sanitizes storage and work areas and equipment.
- Demonstrates respect for clients and fellow employees in all matters.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications
Essential
- Current Food Handler’s Certificate.
- One year of related institution experience in a kitchen and /or servery is required.
- Must have excellent customer service, time management and organizational skills and the ability to work with a team and independently.
- Must demonstrate the ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations and have a genuine desire to work with the elderly and volunteer workers.
- An understanding of the Residents’ Bill of Rights and Compliance Standards as set out by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care is essential.

- Must be able to work shifts. The incumbent must be able to perform all the necessary physical tasks associated with the position including pushing, pulling and lifting.

- Current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screen, by the first day of employment.
- Current two-step tuberculosis test (obtained within the past six (6 months) by your first day of employment.
- The Region encourages staff to be immunized for influenza, however, it is not a condition of employment. If you do have proof of influenza vaccination or medical exemption, that should be shared as part of your onboarding process.
