Job Summary

Reporting to the Manager, Nutrition Services this role provides leadership to all functions of the Production Kitchen to facilitate provision of meals to residents of Allendale, Post Inn Village and Creek Way Village as well as Adult Day Program and Meals on Wheels clients.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensure that Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) food safety principles are followed. 
  • Maintain a safe working environment for the staff of the Production Kitchen.
  • Lead the recruitment, orientation, scheduling, supervision and performance management of Production Kitchen Staff.
  • Ensure preventative maintenance best practices are followed for the Production Kitchen equipment.
  • Liaise with the Registered Dietitian to ensure resident therapeutic needs are met through effective menu planning and food production.
  • Coordinate menu planning activities with the Nutrition Managers of Halton Region’s LTC Homes.
  • Lead efforts in new product development and testing for menu planning purposes.
  • Participate as an active member of the Dietary Functional Group for Halton Region’s LTC Homes.
  • Oversee the utilization of the CBORD software program for food production functions.
  • Lead the process for development and maintenance of policies and standard operating procedures for the Production Kitchen.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement and Risk Management activities.
  • Foster relationships with community, internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in the procurement process for food and non/food vendor contracts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

Essential

  • A post-secondary accredited program related to nutrition and food services management; a minimum of three years’ supervisory experience and experience in quantity cook chill food production in a long-term care setting.
  • Experience supervising in a unionized environment, strong project management and organizational skills and exceptional communication, interpersonal and collaboration skills are required.
  • Familiarity with the Fixing Long Term Care Homes Act is required.

 

Preferred

  • Preference given to applicants that are a red seal chef with membership in the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management.
  • Experience using CBORD Nutrition Software Solution.

  • Travel may be required, the incumbent must provide their own transportation.

  • Current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screen, by the first day of employment.
  • Current two-step tuberculosis test (obtained within the past six (6 months) by your first day of employment.
