Duties & Responsibilities

  • Sorts soiled linen/articles.
  • Weighs articles and documents results.
  • Washes soiled articles.
  • Dries laundered articles.
  • Hangs/folds laundered articles.
  • Presses items as required.
  • Performs minor mending.
  • Delivers wagons to resident home areas and distributes articles appropriately.
  • Differentiates between “dry clean” and water wash articles.
  • Updates resident/number lists.
  • Documents missing and found actions/returns from linen service.
  • Orders laundry chemicals/supplies.
  • Monitors and confirms daily linen quotas.
  • Responds to the customer/client enquiries.
  • Labels personal effects of residents.
  • Cleans laundry equipment/area.
  • Responds to priorities/emergencies.
  • Informs Supervisor of any issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
     

Skills & Qualifications

Essential

  • The successful candidate will possess a secondary school diploma and the ability to operate laundry equipment and prioritize tasks.
  • Good oral and written communication skills and the ability to work both in a team and independently are required.
  • The candidate must have an understanding of the Residents’ Bill of Rights and Compliance Standards as set out by the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.
  • A general knowledge and understanding of workplace safety and basic computer skills are also required.

Working Conditions

  • The successful candidate will be made an offer of employment on condition that the Regional Municipality of Halton receives a current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screening by the first day of employment. You will also be required to provide a current two-step tuberculosis test (obtained within the past six (6) months) by the first day of employment.
  • The incumbent must be able to perform all the necessary physical tasks associated with the position including lifting approximately 50 lbs., pushing, pulling, and moving heavy materials, equipment and boxes.

  • In support of the Region’s commitment to a healthy and safe workplace and community, the Region has a vaccination requirement for all employees. The successful candidate will be made an offer of employment on the condition of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and able to provide proof of vaccination. The candidate will be asked to provide the Region with proof of full vaccination, prior to their employment start date. The requirement to be fully vaccinated is subject to the Ontario Human Rights Code. If the candidate is unable to vaccinate for a reason protected by the Code, a request for accommodation can be requested and written proof satisfactory to the Region will be required.
