Duties & Responsibilities

  • Complete a combination of proactive and reactive work safety and effectively while ensuring timely compliance to schedule and regulatory standards. 
  • Plan, schedule, diagnose and repair any partial or full failures and follow escalation, failure cause and problem prevention processes to minimize repair times, meantime between failures. 
  • Conduct condition appraisal and refurbishment planning to restore equipment reliability and support the optimization of care plans to maintain condition over the useable life of the asset.
  • Complete Hazard assessments for each work order to ensure all risks are mitigated as much as reasonably possible.
  • Utilize daily, CMMS, log sheets and Microsoft office documents as required to record all work performed, materials used, and other data entry as required. 
  • Follow all inventory management and SAP master data coordination processes.
  • Interpret and updated Operating & Maintenance (O&M) manuals, diagrams, schematics, prints and recommend/make revisions as required.
  • Organize, coordinate and work with external contractors while performing proactive and reactive work.
  • Respond to emergency equipment failures, troubleshoot equipment and diagnose problems, identify needed resources and make repairs or work with contractors to complete work.
  • Provide support services to the Region’s Engineering group to assist with project implementation and the start-up and commissioning of equipment.
  • Maintain good working relationships with all colleagues, customers and contractors through collaboration, communication and application of conflict resolution skills.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

Essential

  • The successful candidate must possess a valid Certificate of Apprenticeship along with a valid Certificate of Qualification as an Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) (433A) in good standing with the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities. 
  • Three to five (3-5) years’ experience as a qualified millwright is also required, preferably in the Industrial water or wastewater treatment sector. 
  • The candidate must possess strong working knowledge of pumping and control system installation and maintenance. 
  • Experience in completing Preventive and Predictive maintenance activities and optimizing maintenance plans. 
  • Preference given to candidates with one or more of the following, MLT1, MMP, and OIT certification, Level 1 Water or wastewater Licensing. 
  • The candidate must be able to interpret equipment manufacturer’s schematic drawings and operating and maintenance (O&M) manuals to effectively check equipment installation and repairs and interpret design drawings to validate and provide comments on proposed work.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are required along with problem solving, priority setting, and customer service skills to work effectively in an empowered team environment. 
  • The candidate must possess a good understanding of safety practices as mandated under the Occupational Health & Safety Act, as well as knowledge of Ministry of Environment, conversation and parks. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required as well as working knowledge of SAP PM and MM. 

 

Preferred

  • Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics and electrical systems. 
  • Experience with troubleshooting and formal root cause analysis processes, and experience with inventory management systems to maintain quality of data.

Working/ Employment Conditions

Working Conditions: 

  • Flexibility to work outside of core business hours including evenings, weekends and holidays is required.
  • The successful incumbent will be required to serve on standby and respond to after hour callouts, as specified by Public Works Operations Practices. 
  • The incumbent must be able to perform all the necessary physical tasks associated with the position including lifting, bending, kneeling, crawling, climbing ladders, working from scaffolding and heights.

 

 

Employment Conditions:  

  • The successful candidate will be made an offer of employment on condition that the Regional Municipality of Halton receives a current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check, by the first day of employment.
  • The incumbent will be required to drive a Regional vehicle and will be required to provide a copy of their driver’s license and a driver’s abstract, by their first day of employment.
