This is a temporary/contract position working 40 hours per week, up to June 30, 2022.

Shifts will include days, evenings and weekends.

Job Summary

Provide security support at a variety of facilities by maintaining a safe and secure environment for visitors and employees. Support contracted staff and help to ensure that all members of the on-site team are performing their duties as required, while enforcing set policies and procedures that maintain the safety and security of the facility they are working in.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Acts as the liaison with the Regional Security Section, other Regional Departments and contracted staff to enable an effective operation
  • Performs regular monitoring of site security, resolves deficiencies or disputes, and reports deficiencies as necessary 
  • Actively contribute to the achievement of the goals and work effectively within a team based environment
  • Oversees the movement of guests at various points throughout the property
  • Assists security staff in the performance of other duties or tasks
  • Provides access control for the facility/area
  • Conducts indoor or outdoor patrols and stationary guarding as required
  • Assists visitors and Regional staff with directions to the appropriate area within the facility
  • Has the ability to address conflicts and incidents and to deescalate
  • Ensures that the facility’s safety and emergency procedures are followed in response to fire alarms and other site Emergencies
  • Ensures proper infection control equipment/clothing is worn and distributed as required
  • Is prepared to greet, screen and log in information of all staff, clients and visitors who enter the facility
  • Ensures screening areas are clean, presentable and organized
  • Assists with screening measures such as asking specific screening questions and other measures that may be implemented
  • Presents a professional, customer friendly image at all times
  • Keeps meticulous records through Daily Occurrence Reports and Incident Reports          
  • Maintains effective interpersonal relations and communications with colleagues, Regional staff and the public
  • Maintains good public relations by presenting a professional, knowledgeable and conscientious image to the public
  • Provide quality customer service through effective communications, a positive personal image and attitude and a focus on continuous improvement

Skills & Qualifications


  • Minimum of two (2) years of full-time security experience as a security guard
  • A valid Ontario driver’s license
  • Ontario security guard license
  • Knowledge of security practices, terminology and understanding of relevant regulations
  • Strong problem solving skills and be able to multi-task and work with multiple individuals at the same time
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills and be committed to working in a team-based environment with a focus on continuous improvement and quality customer service



  • A security based diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in team lead and supervisor roles
  • Policing or military experience, knowledge of the Use of Force Continuum and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training

Working/ Employment Conditions

Working Conditions 

  • Working in a clinical environment, interacting with large numbers of Halton residents.
  • Performing daily self-screening for COVID-19 symptoms, prior to reporting to work.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) must be worn as required. Training and relevant PPE will be provided.
  • Travel within Halton will be required, the incumbent must supply their own transportation.
  • Flexibility in work schedule, including evenings and weekends, is required.
  • Must be able to stand/walk for long periods of time.

  • Valid Ontario driver’s license
  • Ontario security guard license
  • Current (obtained within the past six (6) months), Original and acceptable Criminal Records Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Screen, by the first day of employment.
  • In support of the Region’s commitment to a healthy and safe workplace and community, the Region has a vaccination requirement for all employees. The successful candidate will be made an offer of employment on the condition of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and able to provide proof of vaccination. The candidate will be asked to provide the Region with proof of full vaccination, prior to their employment start date. The requirement to be fully vaccinated is subject to the Ontario Human Rights Code. If the candidate is unable to vaccinate for a reason protected by the Code, a request for accommodation can be requested and written proof satisfactory to the Region will be required.
