Job Summary

Reporting to the Digital Senior Security Advisor, this position will be responsible for the ongoing implementation and refinement of Halton’s IT information security program, which includes procedures and policies designed to protect Regional enterprise communications, systems and assets from both internal and external threats. This includes performing regular security audits, TRA’s (threat risk assessments), firewall management, log monitoring and updating policies and procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensures compliance of the Region’s information systems and IT infrastructure with current security policies, standards, and procedures through regular audit and reviews.
  • Develops and implements corporate wide information security standards, guidelines and procedures and security awareness program.
  • Maintain and Manage firewall configuration (objects and rules) to manage secure and efficient connectivity with external partner networks and the Internet. 
  • Maintains security controls for the local area network, intranet, e-mail communications, applications and external feeds protecting the Region against the risk of cyber-security threats and breaches.
  • Conducts regular risk assessment analysis of critical IT systems, core business applications, and IT infrastructure including cloud based technologies and IoT (Internet of Things).
  • Develops and evaluates new strategies and plans to address potential and known IT security violations and activity logs.
  • Investigates and resolves security incidents and implements appropriate action to mitigate future incidents.
  • Proactively identifies security risks ensuring increased network availability and minimizing potential risk to the organization. 
  • Monitors and implements controls to mitigate risks due to SPAM, spyware, viruses, malware and phishing (social engineering).
  • Provides consultation to business areas to protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of their electronic assets.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills & Qualifications

Essential

  • Diploma in Computer Science from a recognized Community College and/or University.
  • Two years IT security administration experience.
  • Knowledge of current information security, audit and legal industry practices and standards, specifically ISO 17799, NIST, COBIT, PIPEDA, PHIPA and ITIL.
  • Strong knowledge of LAN/WAN configuration and design, VPN, firewalls, wireless, Windows Active Directory and TCP/IP.
  • Technical expertise with Windows 10 and Microsoft Services.
  • Excellent oral written and presentation skills 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment.

 

Preferred

  • Experience with FortiNet enterprise firewalls, familiarity with audit and forensic tools and CISSP / CISA security certification or equivalent.

  • Current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check by the first day of employment.
